Basketball: President Barack Obama Stitches Make the News

President Obama received 12 stitches on his lips after an elbow hit his face while playing basketball this morning. We wish the President a speedy recovery.

Three weeks after being battered at the ballot box, Barack Obama today received an unwelcome Thanksgiving present on the basketball court in the form of an elbow in the face.

The First Lip required 12 stitches and local anesthetic after a bruising encounter while Obama was playing a full-court game with friends and family at Fort McNair, an army base in Washington DC.

Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, said in a statement:

After being inadvertently hit with an opposing player’s elbow in the lip while playing basketball with friends and family, the President received 12 stitches today administered by the White House Medical Unit. They were done in the doctor’s office located on the ground floor of the White House.

Obama Needs 12 Stitches After Getting Whacked in the Lip
President Obama needed 12 stitches on his upper lip after he was inadvertently hit this morning while playing basketball with friends and family at Fort McNair in Washington, D.C.
The president was playing defense when Rey Decerega, an opposing player, turned into him to take a shot and his elbow hit Obama in the mouth.

“I learned today the president is both a tough competitor and a good sport,” Decerega, who works for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, said in a written statement. “I enjoyed playing basketball with him this morning. Obama gets 12 stitches after elbowing on hoops court
In a Friday morning pickup game, President Obama was accidentally elbowed by one of his fellow players, forcing him to get 12 stitches in his lip, the White House said. Obama received the stitches under local anesthesia in the doctor’s office on the ground floor of the White House after he returned home from the game at Fort McNair, a military base where he often plays.
